Awareness
Ask yourself this:
Are you living life on autopilot?
Do you wake up & immediately go into action?
Maybe you go straight to your device, or you go right to doing all the things like starting the coffee, getting ready, getting your family all set up for the day, making & eating breakfast, answering emails, starting your work day… the list goes on. Next thing you know, you are getting into bed feeling exhausted & hoping you have the energy & stamina to get through it all again tomorrow.
In our fast-paced world, it’s so easy to go about our day, moving from one task to another, without noticing many of life’s precious details - without paying attention to the signs & signals that are being sent from our bodies to our brains.
These important messages could lead to very important insights that can then guide us toward better health & well-being. If we keep ignoring ourselves, overriding the messages, & distracting with tasks & external stimuli, how can we hear what wants to be known?
Unfortunately, when we’re operating in a high-functioning state that demands productivity & quick processing, these signals can go unnoticed by the conscious mind.
In this state, that we’ve all experienced a little (or a lot) in life, we’re making unconscious decisions & acting in ways that may not serve us or those around us.
It’s like we are sleepwalking through life.
But, we don’t have to be.
Instead, we can be present, wakeful, alert, & aware.
Let this be an invitation to check in with yourself right now.
How are you feeling physically?
Are you tense, relaxed, hunched, standing tall…
How’s your mind?
Do you feel scattered, empty, full, organized…
How’s your heart?
Are you inspired, happy, sad, alone…
When we’re aware, we’re intimately noticing the world around us & within us.
We’re able to bring what is unconscious into consciousness – like the information & signals we receive from our bodies, minds, hearts, souls, & from our environments.
And anything that we’re able to bring more attention to is enhanced.
With training, just as you would if you were building physical muscles, you can become more aware & present over time.
Like anything else in life, the more we focus on something & practice it, the better we are at it, & the more easily it comes to us.
So, here's our practice for you:
Pick a moment in the coming week to intentionally bring more awareness to.
Maybe it's in the quiet morning before everyone wakes up.
Maybe it's a pause during your work day to look outside, see the colours, hear the sounds.
Or maybe it's in the evening, as you lay your head on the pillow and feel your sheets wrap around you.
Pause. Breathe. Notice what you notice.
We hope this short and simple note can help you tune into yourself & your life more intimately.
